Hey guys,

interesting chat there. I've also been wondering for years, and still don't have any piece of answer...

Vicious, I couldn't find back the thread from Nikkita you were talking about.

There are two more questions from which I can't find an answer :

1) Are the copyright laws different if you publish your tracks using samples in one country or another ? It seems that if you publish in the US it's harder than in the other countries

2) What if you don't plan a commercial use of your productions that include samples ? I mean if you freely distribute your music, there is no money you may render to the copyright owners, as you don't make money yourself...? And, to go deeper in the question, can you publish your tracks Under Creative Commons, if you're using copyrighted samples, in the case you won't make money from your tracks ?

it is true that you can use anything which was put in the public domain

http://librivox.org/ here is a good source for finding vocals there (free to use)

I don't know about ripping vocals from movies, it can work well, but you just have to risk not being caught. It depends on how commercial the track is going to be and how popular it would become
