Being an unknown hardstyle artist

Post by Soundphase »

These days it feels a bit strange to me doing hardstyle sounds while I have no fan base and not even close friends who are into hardstyle.
I don't allow fear to affect me but sometimes when I'm sitting here, I feel like I'm at a lonely Russian outpost or something. It just seems like there isn't much hype around hardstyle production anymore.. The kick topic is visited quite rarely nowadays and the lead topic is gone to hell

Get connections. Connections = 80% of the breaking through part tbh.

If you want more active producer groups, try Hardtraxx producer's corner or even on FB (Code Black producer group).

I guess it's important. Maybe when I get more confident, I still have to feel happy about my projects (won't be using the name "soundphase" either).

True yeah. Tbh connections > quality of music nowadays lol (I mean I think a average producer with good connections can easily get further than a sublime producer who is introvert and doesn't know how to market him/herself).

@ Soundphase by being Dutch you're actually a step ahead in that case.. send some of your stuff to succesful guys and get feedback, who knows!

True... connections are everything. Some people are lucky to get noticed, but mostly it's about putting your name out there.

Find people who can help you improve your sound (groups like the CB facebook group have over 7k members), get some presence on social media (keep posting even if its just your mom watching) and when you're ready I wouldn't spam your music to all DJs/promoters in one email on BCC. Find one or two artists that fits to your style and send them personal mails/messages.

Hm there are a lot of guys out there who look at hardstyle as a career kind of endeavor though. I don't look at it that way, and that is why I believe I won't fit in with those guys who are trying to make it in the scene. I'm more of a hobbyist and I can't say that "hardstyle till I die", because I am also big into hardcore sound design. It's just different nowadays, because in the past a lot of hobbyist producers used to flock to producer forums, but now it's not really a fashionable thing anymore

Heyyoo, don't let other people define what you wanna do with your life/hobby/music, we've all been there. I have to agree with connections is important, getting your stuff heard and shit. Hell, I don't even have any "fanbase" I just do my shit because, I'm doing it more as a hobby and the love for the music. I prob never gonna be "famous" or make good cash on my shit, but its not even my end goal anyway. There are some lit discords out there, just have to look around. Also just keep doing music, if you like it, its awesome! Keep doing what you like! If you feel that you dont evolve enough, just pm anyone you know a bit, hell, pm me with stuff if you wanna. The reason why lots of forums are going down and shit is because discord is taking over and stuff. Idk, this is my 2 cents, but people usually are pretty decent and friendly, at least when I interact with people, just be nice and people will treat you the same.

Same here. I used to be around forums all the time (GHF brings back memories...), but my goals have always been different too. I'm not in this for a career or fame, but i do have a passion and love for Hardstyle music over any other genre. I don't usually tell people this but in my personal case; if i can ever create a track that would be played by Bas Oskam or Michel Pollen and they're like 'nice track dude' then that would pretty much be my endgame. I don't expect to ever have a huge career or become rich.

And yeah...8-10 years ago a ton of people would hang around on forums dicussing how to get that CTRL-ALT-DELETE kicksound and whatnot. Nowadays when i criticize people using ripped kicks on Code Black FB group everyone turns @#$%ing toxic.
