I think because they want to avoid the chaos with buying lockers, security deposit fee and with lost&found keys.

There isnt any key

There is no deposit this year, but if you had returned the key right after the event ends, you could get back easily your deposit fee

This year, you just have to use the code you will obtain on 20th of november at 6 pm to lock it and unlock using new system. I think it is not, but I do not believe you don't have any stuff you might want to leave in your locker just for safety matters such as your wallet maybe or a jacket or something.
