Industrial Electronic Music

Post by Dj Reaper »

I just feel like listening to some industrial electronic music (don´t care if it is techno, hardcore, ambient whatever) but I have no clue about it and where to search Browsing trough youtube just gave me badly produced rushed tracks which are called "industrial" to say like "well this track is industrial, it is supposed to sound bad" and some terrorcore stuff etc..

What I am searching is music with a static rhythm that remembers machines moving, not melodic, containing harsh, percussive noises, metallic pads, nice panning fx, and a dark cold atmosphere, rather progressive and minimalistic structure and for gods sake a serious, WELLMADE track, not a fl studio kick looped at 250bpm and with one distortion unit thrown on the masterchannel at max power by some dj terrornoisecocainmotherfucker.

Is there something like this out there or am I mistaking the word "industrial"? As said it can also be hardcore with very distorted kicks, but on a sophisticated level, with kicks that sound equal in the frequencies, and wellmixed with the other elements giving the sensation of harshness in rhythm and sounds, but still being good music. Hope I can dig deeper into this genere with your help.

You might be thinking of Darkcore or EBM.

I give you an example for a quite good (okay, I think it is!) EBM track and judge whether it meets your requirements:

@Reverse Ghost: I tried to explore Darkcore a bit some time ago but from what I remember it's just more or less slowed down old gabberkicks with a few supersaw (thats te tipical hc lead sound in case you don't know) sweeps here and there. However EBM is new to me and from what Convicted posted it seems pretty interesting :)

@TheConvicted: Alltough this matches my description in most points it sound pretty different then what I have on mind, I thought about something a bit less melodic, kick sitting a bit more in the front, no vocals and more metallic noises. However this track you posted is even much better than the music I have in mind, never heard something that dark, I just closed my eyes and saw myself walking on a grey desert planet with metal pieces laying around and huge artificial mountains, like a mental trip. If you can reccomend more artists or tracks like this would be awesome. And btw the "track quality" matches my requirements, I can hear that there is work behind and not a 12-year old wanting to be underground (tough that artist name is italian and has a strange meaning)..Gosh how many good tracks, artists an generes are out there that I am missing...

@MarlboroMan: Alltough I like what The Convicted posted more, this is pretty much what I had in mind, some less lo-fi-ish more modern sounding track would have been cool, but otherwise this seems to be the style I am searching for. What genere is this?

Seems we have different kind of imaginations, as nothing with metals come into my mind while I'm listening to EBM, just the black and white overcast landscape with dark suited people looking creepy with their eyes or something like that (it's almost the same at all tracks with dark atmospheres tbh)

To be honest, I can't really recommend you any artists, because I'm not an ordinary EBM-listener, only do it, when I need some inspiration or tired of listening hardstyle (but then I mostly listen IHC or classical music nowadays). But what about to start it here maybe? ;)

Besides these, I'd like to name Love Hz as well. There aren't too much releases and probably you won't find the tracks on Youtube (or at least a few of them), but the collaborations and remixes of the artists are available too :)

@MarlboroMan: thanks for the label suggestions, I´ll check them out :)

@The Convicted: I guess we are both creative persons though, many people don´t even think of pictures when they hear music, but I use this a lot when producing breaks for example, it is like I am watching a film and immagine what would suit this scene and make the music..than obviously everybody sees a different film when hearing my track but at least I give it something unique and often I ask myself what a producer of acertain track feels or sees when making this track, wheter it is similar to what I see or very different..IMO those feelings are one of the most beatuiful aspects of music, it is like a drug that brings you into another dimension but isn´t bad for your body,
And thank you for the useful link with the artists! I´ll check them out when feeling the need for EBM music :)
