a quick question

Post by soepa »

i couldn't find a thread to post this, but i need an answer on this maybe stupid question:

i want my kick not to pitch through a melody, what should i do with the bass notes? remove them? because when i put them all through the melody on G# (or w/e note the kick is on), it sounds bad. removing the bass notes makes the melody sound so empty so idk what i should to so it will be correct.

thx in advance

Don't make your melody that complex, so that you don't need the pitching.

Remove the bassnotes from the melody.

try pitching your lead an octave down to stop it all sounding empty and layer, you'd be surprised

eq the bass out of the lead

Good ideas, that's what I would have done.
Or maybe try to set the bassline on the same note on the whole melody?

gonna try that, thanks.

@bluemind, already tried but no good results. or well im gonna make some remakes to learn to produce a little, but i can try that on my own melodies and see how it sounds.

If the lead still doesn't sound full enough try having the lead play both the original octive and the one lower at the same time. I find that melodies without bass notes benefit a lot from multiple layers at different octives.

Better yet, you could even build a second lead to play that lower octive to make things a bit more interesting.

try fase-shifting your lead after the things that @statical mentiond. a fase shift of just a few millisec's can make a great diffrence.

Ljk, he's talking about moving the initial phase of the oscillator in the generator, not that it would make any bigger difference if anything's detuned enough though...
I'm grumpier than you.

Do people even read these?
