Want to give Schranz a go - no clue where to start

Post by Dj Reaper »

Hi,
as you might know already I produce Hardcore and some Hardstyle but now while listening to a Schranz mix I had a nice idea for a schranz song. However I have no clue how to start. As usual on youtube the tutorials are shitty.

Would be nice if maybe some of you, who produce Schranz at times too could tell me some basic things, for example how to get that rolling noisy effect or maybe point me out to some good tutorials. Should I check out gated kicks too?

Sorry for posting such banal tzhing here but I tried it once or twic e and I remember just shit came out..

loops and lots of percussion, distortion, bit crushing, gated reverb etc ... best thing to do is dissect a schranz loop, majority is just a 1 bar loop being effected etc for the main parts so try breaking it down in recycle or something and listen to the individual elements

Thanks for your advice :) But on what do you use bitcrushing and distortion?
So basically you say I should make one complex loop with lots of percussions and than after maybe an intro I should just bring it in and than just cut out some percussions in breaks or filter it or rearrange the loop at times (like in Hardstyle/core at the end of bars and so) and otherwise leave it troughout the whole song?

I have never produced schranz and to be honest the last schranz track I heard was a Boris S EP which was the first release on Skull Tunes, which I bought on vinyl many years ago! So the sound may have changed lol

Techno in essence is just loops repeated. If i was to produce loops for schranz, i would use the bit crushing/distortion on the different elements of percussion for my loops.

I'd recommend taking some VECS loops that are on the techier side of things, slicing them up and layering them into big loops, adding effects etc

off topic: my favourite schranz track :D

Yes this is exactely the schranz I was thinking of. To be honest I am also not that much into schranz, but at times I listen to some and few days ago I listened to this and got sudden inspiration at 1:35:

I thought it sounds like our italian old noisy trains. So I wnated to diss "Trenitalia" to make a song where an italian announcer says something like the train is starting, you hear the sirene and than with a tempo automation I bring up the train-loop and than in the break someone trys to fall asleep and than the train starts again at full speed and noise. And towards the end of the song I would add more screeching noises and that stuff and at the end you hear the train breaking completely (all kinds of noises and crashes) and than the announcer says train XY has several hours of delay...I think if I was able to make schranz this song would become epic, especially for Italians who know what it is all about. :p
