It's not really difficult to figure out why artists choose this way to release a track free of chargemalicious_kode wrote:I didn't understand it either at first, but I've figured it out now. Don't like this way to "Free Releases"
Here's the thing though... if 15000 people actually like the track, why not release it? I don't know the sort of volume the average release would do, but I wouldn't have thought it would be anywhere near 15k.
I suppose artists do this sort of thing now because with the rise of social media, "Likes" and "Friends" have become the currency of the industry. Ticket sales at an event will be directly proportional to the popularity of the artists performing, and the easiest way to measure popularity is to just compare the numbers. Do you book the guy with 5000 followers, or the guy with 100 000? I understand the artists' motivation, but the whole system is just so hollow. Does "Like" mean that you actually like/love it? Or do you like it on the condition of it being free, coz there's no way in hell you'd pay for it on wax? I guess there's no way to really tell, is there?
Anyway, with the rant now out of the way, I'll say that DHYB is pretty cool and it's good to see that it'll eventually become available, so thanks in advance to the guys from Bioweapon for the freebie. I have to say that I would have been happy to pay for it, but there's no way in hell I'd sign up to Facebook so I could "Like" it.
