I don't mean to necro this topic, especially since it's so old, therefore I apologize, but I'm pretty sure the lead in Melody Man was actually a Vocaloid with a little bit of clip distortion and odd syllable placement. I know for a fact that the word, "I'm the melody man," were a Vocaloid, but the synth seems to use the same soundwave with a minor clip distortion, as I said earlier.
