Not a fan of one of the genres?

(You can't hide all the genres)

Which tracks deserve a 2020 update?

lilfrenchidiot:
ceero:People like The Panacea can fit neurofunk, techno, hardstyle, dubstep and hardcore in one set.

People like Geck-O can fit obscure disco stuff, japanese nrg rave, techno, trance and 7 other genres in one set.

A hardstyle dj can not fit 2010 and 2020 hardstyle together in one set.

I kinda agree with this, but it would be better if the Hardstyle community was not so allergic to diversity in sets (oh besides Uptempo and Frenchcore of course).

I mean even besides old Hardstyle vs new Hardstyle (I know I’m getting offtopic), a guy like Noisecontrollers should be able to play Dubstep for example.

I think the main problem is that the vast majority of hardstyle artists are producers, not djs and when it comes to djing, they are simply button pushers who wouldn't be able to beatmatch by ear and completely lack imagination while mixing. Talking about modern hardstyle scene obviously, there were plenty of great djs in the early days.

Isn't it also because the crowd just don't give a flying fuck about good mixing? We as music nerds do care, but we are what, 1% of the entire hardstyle scene? Guys like Geck-O attract a whole different crowd than a random mainstage or a BLUE (referring to DQ) tent. So why waste time and energy in becoming a diversified DJ when the crowd just simply don't care?

Also true. One of the main reasons.
What if who you essentially are right now, is all that you are ever going to be?

Then again, not talking about the necessity of playing 6 different genres in one set, I was just making that comparison as a reference to how ridiculous the claims that you can not play a hardstyle track couple of years older in a modern hardstyle set. I think you are missing my point here.

Yeah, this is why I've become more active in the techno scene recently, all the DJs can mix, 20+ year old tracks still fit in, the music is diverse and the female DJs / artists aren't sexualised (and there's a lot of them compared to HS)

Plus the music is made for dancing! No 3 minute breaks and 25s of beats, like the producers are ashamed of their own productions and would rather just be making emo pop or w/e

^can nothing but agree with your entire post, basically every point you make is one of the reasons i'm slowly starting to prefer techno to hs lately

Doctor Dave:No 3 minute breaks

Just wait until you discover ambient techno! :+

But I have to agree with almost everything above me. Yet it's still hard to "break up" with hardstyle, I'm just unable to stop following new stuff :D

The Blaster:Very out of touch with reality, but what is the barrier to playing the originals out at a club?

This is an excellent question! I wanted to write a huge analysis on this, but maybe another day :P

ThePrincipal:the artists think they sound shit. Not sure why they don't just embrace them for what they are and how they were made at the time. Old tunes can fit anywhere if you think carefully enough on where to place them, but people can't be fucked doing it much anymore and use the "it sounds shit" excuse.

Who said that though? It's quite the generalisation of "artists" to just claim that, don't you think, mate? :P

Doctor Dave:.... the female DJs / artists aren't sexualised (and there's a lot of them compared to HS)

Sadly, that's not true, but you might not have seen it and that's a good sign. :)

DjVero:ISo why waste time and energy in becoming a diversified DJ when the crowd just simply don't care?

Depends on the scene, the event and the audience of course ;) I personally care because I wanna have fun and challenge the audience. Sometimes I go too far and that's on me then.

Ah, that's a shame, I guess at least it isn't that blatant then, like Stephanie must be on the verge of starting an Onlyfans judging by her own facebook posts :+

Some of those conversations were private so I can't share but it is something probably 10-12 artists have told me over the years - which I obviously don't agree with hence my post ;)
