i'm not talking about compression on kicks or whatever has been done a million times, but advanced stuff like parralell compression, linear compression etc. but still covering the basics. Still pointless?

Parallel compression's also been covered a lot. I've not heard of linear compression though and couldn't exactly find it when I searched. Can you briefly outline the general concept?

the way i was taught, was that you lightly compress a certain instrument - i.e the bass - several times. This allows you to keep the dynamic range down but makes it stick out in the mix. Its so much easier to show you than it is to explain :)

It's fine, I understand it. I thought that's what it was gonna be. I've known of the process but had never heard the term 'linear compression' before.

yes, but just because you understand, does not mean other beginner producers do, hence making a tutorial

I didn't say you shouldn't make a tutorial.

@Riktor would be way easier to explain if you specified a plugin you want to learn. Also all of that can be googled.

Wrong topic, you're looking for the 'How's this sound made'-topic.
