Logic Clip Distortion alternative with Bad Buss Mojo and Patcher (FL Studio)

All about Software and Hardware (Shared HS/HC)

Hi guys.

I've made a Patcher preset which uses Bad Buss Mojo and the MFreeEffectsBundle for an alternative to Logic's Clip Distortion.

Image

Unfortunately Patcher doesn't have a textbox control to display or allow typing in values of sliders.

I've tried to mimic Logic's Clip Distortion signal flow:
- 6dB high-pass before gain/drive (Tone)
- Drive (up to 50dB)
- Distortion
- Symmetry for asymmetrical distortion
- 6dB low-pass filter (Clip Filter)
- Wet/Dry Mix
- Sum 6dB low-pass filter
- High shelving filter with frequency/gain knobs

Here's what you need:

- Bad Buss Mojo (http://www.stillwellaudio.com/plugins/bad-buss-mojo/)
- MFreeEffectsBundle (http://www.meldaproduction.com/plugins/ ... ectsBundle), or at least:
- MBandPass (for 6dB high/low-pass filters)
- MUtility (for the 6dB DC Blocker)

Bad Buss Mojo (A great plugin!) is doing the majority of the work, I just put together the signal flow.
As far as I know, Mojo has an indefinite evaluation time, so try it out.

Here's the preset:

Put this in Fl Studio/Data/Patches/Plugin Presets/Effects/Patcher for it to appear in Patcher's Presets menu.

Have fun!

I've seen others complaining about the symmetry slider destroying the signal when you go +/-100% symmetry with venm. I get the same with the venm demo.

Venm is by no means a good replacement of Clip Distortion. It should be treated as its own distortion (just like camelphat, devastor or trash would be, for example). This looks pretty neat Phazon, I will have a look at it :)

I didn't test it out yet but I want to ask, did you compare while making this so that each knob gives the same result as each knob in the logic clip distortion?

Yeah. I have a Macbook Pro and compared output from Logic and my preset with a spectrum analyzer and tried to get as close as possible.

After some more comparison I've released version 2.

Yeah, you need MBandPass, MUtility and Bad Buss Mojo. See links in my original post.

Tested it out, sounds great. But how would I use the plugin multiple times?

Totally new to this patcher thing :O
