Here are some of my most favourite tracks of 2016 plus my top 5 tracks of the year are at the end!
It was a really hard, emotional and scary process in deciding to put the DJ Practice adventures to bed, especially after playing amazing gigs such as the Unleashed Offensive in the Netherlands and Defqon 1 Australia (Blue stage) this year. I had been playing as DJ Practice for nearly 10 years and it was such a defining factor of who I was when I was growing up. It was as if I was destroying a major part of my life.
But during this year, my taste has dramatically changed towards the more melodic side of raw hardstyle and I decided the DJ Practice alias did not suit where my taste moved to. Of course I still thoroughly enjoy the crazy, hard, screechy side that DJ Practice stood for but certainly not as much as I used to.
It was time to create something that truly represented the perfect combination of raw and melodic, where my heart now lies. It was time to create something that couldn't be compromised or "dumbed down" for the sake of filling a spot on a lineup or to play what jukeboxes/ipods can play already. It was time to create a project that had a firm meaning that everyone understood and I think I've done that.
I am so grateful for the support, encouragement and feedback of my close friends and fellow music colleagues for encouraging me to take my DJing and music work to a higher and more professional level. You are all amazing. Sorry for not being able to tag you all! <3
I am not sure what 2017 holds for The Principal but I cannot wait to find out what is in store. All I know is that whenever you see The Principal on a lineup, you will receive strong, powerful, raw and melodic tracks within the harder styles (and some screeches too here and there )
Thank you for giving me a new chance to express myself and embracing this change. 2016 was all about change but 2017 will be all about consolidation and hard work.
Happy new year! <3
