How are sets recorded?

Not sure if it belongs here, but how are DJ sets usually recorded? I know of just setting a recorder down resulting in an echoey shitty recording, or a line-in recording, but how do guys like Q-Dance broadcast and record their sets in near-perfect quality while including the crowd sounds? My buddy wants to record his sets but we don't know how to do it or where to sit a recording device for the best quality? :?

I think the crowd's noise is coming through through the MC's mic.

So it's just the rec. output on the mixer that's being fed to the qdance people / servers / internet / everything
meh.
