1line?
2lines?
it makes no difference... it's the rules that matter.
teachings are different in different countries!
Don't think so... the rules are the same for everybody! ;)

yes but just found this on wiki
M and D are often interchanged, leading to such acronyms as BEDMAS, BIMDAS, BODMAS, BOMDAS, BERDMAS, PERDMAS, PEMDAS, and BPODMAS.
it seems like the answer has to be 1 AND 9! not one or the other

i was thought BOMDAS anyway :p

it is
because the standard math rule is that everything is left associated
though my retarded casio calculator says 1 (6)
though THE MATH pacakge (which is also online available) says 9
proof: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=6%2F2%281%2B2%29
like I said left association, that's it

there's a simple explanation..

the calculator that gives the answer as 9 was programmed with either BEDMAS/BODMAS/BERDMAS/PERDMAS or BPODMAS

the calculator sees 6/2(1+2) as (6/2)*(1+2)

the calculator that gives the answer as 1 was programmed with either BIMDAS/BOMDAS or PEMDAS

and it sees 6/2(1+2) as 6/(2(1+2))

there's no mystery

arrrrr.
it is not important!
see:
6 / 2 * (1 + 2) = 6 / 2 * 3 <=== and THERE do DIVISION then MULTIPLICATION FROM LEFT TO RIGHT!
(6)

i'm worried about who thought you maths :dunno:

rules: (as jumpstylenight already posted)
P arenthesis (and brackets of inclusion)
E xponents
M ultiplication
D ivision
A ddition
S ubtraction

you do realize multiplication has first priority over division ?
6 / 2 * (1 + 2) = 6 / 2 * 3 <=== and THERE do DIVISION then MULTIPLICATION FROM LEFT TO RIGHT
wrong.. because multiplication has first priority

written in your format so maybe at least now you understand:
6 / 2 * 3 = 6 / 6 = 1

btw i wrote it out more simply with brackets above to try give people a better insight

the ONLY way to get 9 is if it is written as (6 / 2) * 3 = 3*3 = 9
dude...
if ur blind, see, that
jumpstyleknight wrote:In this case, Multiplication and Division are grouped into the same step, while Addition and Subtraction are grouped into the same step as well.
multiplication has the same priority as division.

to all: what about 3/4(1/(3/4(1+2)))? muahahahaha

dont know what kind of calculators you took the pictures, but my school calculator says it's 1.
Have you ever looked at yourself in the eyes of the one you have not become?
