Whats happening to the scene?

Postby Aztecz » 26 Apr 2011, 12:52

I hate to be a negative nancy (really wished i could be a positive patty on this subject) but it seems like the whole EDM scene/movement or whatever you want to call it is being diluted quite strongly. It seems like nowadays whenever i go to events theres tons of these "Bro-Steppers" who go to raves to get fucked up on hard drugs and listen to dubstep. And then there is the OBVIOUSLY underage kids who run around with nosebleeds yelling "IM SO MESSED UP HOLY S**T"

Whats happening to the scene. Nobody really enjoys themselves anymore they all just do tons of drugs to the point where they cant handle themselves anymore. Nobody seems to be able able to tell the difference between hardcore and hardstyle. The ignorance is just shocking and it makes me upset that nobody cares.

So my question is what lies ahead for the scene in the US? Raving finally came back to the northeast coast about 3-4 years ago and I dont want to lose it again cause of of stupid people that ruin it for all of us.

I guess it's just the "cool thing" in America.
i dunno, I see quite some people on drugs at parties, but the larger portion of people don't do them. I don't see why you'd need to take drugs to enjoy yourself at a party where music is being played that you already really enjoy. Neither do I understand the logic behind getting "effed up" after spending a good portion of money on a ticket. What's the point if you can't remember anything?
I'm already peed when I'm a be sloshed (on beer) and can't remember a few bits of a party.

Anyhoo.. I think lots of people think it's the "thing to do" when you goto parties. Well, it's not. And the organisations in the US should make that clear.

I'm from Canada, and honestly, I must say that it's the same thing here .. I was producing / mixing Dubstep before it was commercialised, when it was '' underground '' if you want to call it that way, and the genre was really filled of good producers, good crowds and fans, going to a dubstep party was really a memorable night, nowadays, when I get booked in a dubstep party, I'm playing in front of '' baked as hell '' kids whos eyes aren't even looking the same way, they don't even remember half of the party, it's pretty sad to see that it's the same thing in the US.. We should do something about it, but what can we really do ? Nothing ..

Industrial Strength US.... that's the industrial hardcore scene in the US, keeping it real as music so that scene should stay intact while the mainstream stuff may even be the new dubstep (Endymion I bet). There's a difference between art that is enjoyed by the viewer and going to a party to have fun.

It's the same here.. People go to dubstep party's just go get f-ed up, not to enjoy the music. I was at a party this thursday and if you went to the toilets people were standing there doing drugs and there was civil cops running around sticking their hands in the sofas to search for drugs and stuff :/ It's so sad.

And people don't even recognize the songs too. Like you said, if I say that I listen to hardstyle or hardcore they don't know the difference.

It's no different in Aus. Where I live Psytrance and shitty dubstep is real popular, and there's plenty of odd characters wacked off their nut and slutty teenies. Anywhere you go there's idiots ruining some scene, it's just unfortunate. Eg. Arthouse/indie sluts thinking they like shitty 80's music go to a Duran Duran concert, get nosebleeds etc, then ruin the show for the 'real' audience (middle aged bogans, probably their parents).
Personally I'd just move to Canada and go to their Glitch parties lol Canadians seem nicer

Not to mention it just puts a bad name on the idea of a rave here. When someone says "rave" they "oh this guy is going to go get messed up on drugs!". Still being in high school, the school health class teachers just preach ignorant crap about how "raves are evil and filled with drugs".

With the matter of hardstyle/hardcore in the states, its almost not existent really. I've heard that the scene is pretty good in Chicago and NYC for hardstyle "NYC has their own hardstyle radio station now I believe"..and hardcore is apparently decent out in the west. I'm not 100% on all that though :P. Though, other places like my area "Baltimore/DC", dubstep is the big thing now along with the rap stuff.
