Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus. Just wow, what a step down this is from the previous 2 games.

I have a question about Steam. Is it possible to download games, more like expansion packs, and install them over a game I bought originally on CD/DVD? And will also any mods work on it?

I'm not quite sure. I think the game has to be activated on Steam for you to be able to play DLC on it. When you installed your game, did it run a setup through Steam? If yes, then it should be no problem. About the mods. They will work if the mod itself is compatible with the dlc.

I installed that game from a hardcopy CD some years ago, so no it did not run a setup through Steam.

If you have the CD-key, there's a (somewhat large) chance that the game can get registered on your account. I did it with a bunch of old Football Manager games. I think it all depends on whether or not the game has been purchasable through Steam at one point or another.
If you don't know how to activate a game via cd-key on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601#how

In other news: Sanctum 2 is Free on Humblebundle right now, and for the next 13h 54m as of writing. Decent co-op game. https://www.humblebundle.com/store/sanctum-2

How about a little list of the games you guys thought were the best of the year? (I fully expect Zelda and Mario to be the favourites, but I'm still curious)

Personally I'd say it's between these games:
Tekken 7 (Already clocked over 300 hours in it - first 50 was refreshing movement, getting familiar with Akuma and re-practicing electrics and strings)
Cuphead
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
Hollow Knight
Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus
Nier: Automata
Nioh
Assassin's Creed: Origins

And most disappointing game (that I've played):
South Park: The Fractured But Whole. It was actually okay, but I expected way better. Stick of Truth is miles better, imo.

I've omitted the big, celebrated, console exclusives because I don't play on console.
